Advantages using Speci Purge™

When Time is Money

All purge materials are not created equal. When it comes to extrusion, the faster the equipment can be cleaned, the sooner profits can be made. Some purging agents are better than others. Today's specialty resin offer manufactures unique and profitable applications.

However, these resins also come with their own set of challenges when it comes to purging. Temperature and chemically sensitive materials can be very difficult to remove as they tend to degrade or crosslink. This is especially true as extrusion and molding systems become more complex.

To meet these challenges, MSI Technology has developed and patented a unique purge compound: Speci Purge™. Speci Purge™ is not just another purge, it is a cleaning agent without equal. It's Triple-action cleaning technology works not only on specialty materials, but also enhances the cleaning of polyolefins and polyesters as well.

Solution for Nylon, EVOH and PET

  • Chemically reacts to lower viscosity of Nylon, EVOH and PET
  • Lower overall production costs
    • Faster changeovers and reduced machine downtime
    • Reduced need for screw-pulls
    • Lower rejects, less scrap Increased productivity

When There is No Alternative

Tackling the tough problems

Effect of Speci Purge™ on the Reaction Between Nylon 6 and EVOH

Many times, processors are forced to run their equipment with materials that are not very compatible. Residual material in an extruder can severely react with the next material to be extruded. this is a common occurrence in coextrusion when, for example, nylon is being replace by Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol (EVOH) in a given extruder (or vice versa).

Nylon and EVOH react to create crosslinked material. This crosslinked material can lead to hours or days to gel showers, severely disrupting production. Because of this reaction, it is absolutely essential to conduct a thorough purge. In order to do this economically, a purge needs to go beyond conventional approaches.

Speci Purge™ attacks the problem from multiple angles. It chemically reacts to break down the crosslinked material as well as the individual components. The chart above shows how, after almost 30 minutes of reaction, Speci Purge™ is able to break down crosslinked chains and lower viscosity. Speci Purge™'s foaming action then works to ensure these materials are not left behind in the tough to reach areas of equipment. Finally, the scrubbing action of Speci Purge™ words to mechanically reduce deposits.

Today's multi-tasking equipment requires a thorough, efficient multi-tasking approach. Speci Purge™ is the right tool for the job.
